Recently when in a raw food store with a friend, we decided to try a wheatgrass shot. When the store owner asked us if we’d like to try a one we both replied “we can’t have gluten”. Much to our surprise, we were told that wheatgrass is totally gluten-free! So down the hatch they went! I wasn’t expecting the taste to be so pleasant and it wasn’t gritty like other green drinks I have tried. We both experienced an immediate “lift’ in our energy. So being the researcher that I am, I had to find out what was so special about this grass.
Wheatgrass for those of you who don’t know is the grass of young wheat plants. The reason it is gluten free is that the grass tops are cut off and juiced and therefore contains no gluten berry. One of the most potent components of wheatgrass is chlorophyll. Chlorophyll acts as a magnet to pull toxins out of the body. Wheatgrass juice is easily digested, I read that it only takes a few minutes to be absorbed by the body – that’s amazing!
It is also said that 1 pound of fresh wheatgrass = 23 pounds of garden veggies!!!!
Ten Reasons to add Wheatgrass juice to your diet:
- One ounce contains over a 100 vitamins, minerals and amino acids
- Helps restore sex hormones (fertility / PMS)
- Neutralizes toxins
- Purifies the liver
- Improves digestion
- Improves blood sugar regulation
- Prevents tooth decay
- Great for blood disorders of all kinds
- Helpful in weight loss since it suppresses the appetite and stimulates circulation and metabolism
Since wheatgrass is a powerful detoxifier, it is recommended that you introduce one ounce per day and work your way to three or four ounces per day in order to gently introduce it to your system. You may experience headaches or nausea if you start out taking too much because it helps to release toxins however this will go away once your body adjusts.
